Inside Out Series

InsideOutBanner

“Lisa has created a beautiful, complicated, and sensual world that is filled with intrigue and suspense. Sara’s character is strong, flawed, complex, and sexy — a modern girl we all can identify with. I’m thrilled to develop a television show that will tell Sara’s whole story — her life, her work, her friends, and her sexuality.”
Suzanne Todd, Producer of Alice in Wonderland

How the Series Came About

Lisa Renee Jones and her husband, Diego, used to buy and sell storage units (quite sometime before the reality show). In one of the units Diego found a journal, started reading from, and spent years convincing Lisa to write a story that revolved around a similar situation. From Diego’s consistent encouragement and Lisa’s creative talents — The Inside Out Series was born.

The Inside Out Series follows the life of Sara McMillan who comes into possession of some journals left in a storage unit. Unable to resist, she begins to uncover the dark, erotic secrets the pages hold. Entries that would fuel her fantasies and change her life in ways she could never imagine.

How It All Started

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

The story behind the winery you will discover in the series:

The details of the fictional version in the books:

Chateau Cellar Winery, Napa Valley, Calistoga region owned by Mike and Katie Wickerman, godparents to the artist Chris Merit.

Located in Napa Valley, nestled amidst the the miles and miles of beautiful green mountains and countryside of the Mayacamas Mountains. The Chateau established Napa Valley as the wine industry it is today. In a blind test in Paris in 1976, the judges, biased to their own wineries, chose one of the Chateau’s wines. Chateau Cellar produces a wine to rival the best in Paris. Their 2002 Chateau Cabernet Sauvignon is one of their flagship wines.

The Chateau is truly a nineteenth-century castle, with green vines traveling the stone walls, and massive arched wooden doors almost as high as the structure. It was remodeled in the seventies and the entire two hundred and fifty-six acre property was converted to a modern wine-making facility.

A short walk outside will bring you to a small brick walkway to a wooden bridge that arches over a large pond. At night glowing orange lanterns dangle from poles mounted in the wooden rails, the stars above dotting the black, cloudless canvas. Down the wooden bridge you will find a gazebo, where there is the sweet scent of roses. The greenery entwining the wooden overhang has delicate buds clinging to the leaves.

There is an art gallery on the property where showings are done along with wine tasting and cheese.

Chateau Montelena: World-class winery most famous for winning the white wine section of the historic “Judgment of Paris” wine competition in 1976 which put Napa Valley on the world map. Recently featured in the 2008 film Bottle Shock.

From their website:

In 1976 Chateau Montelena helped put California at the forefront of the wine world. That year a who’s-who of the French wine and food establishment gathered for a grand tasting at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Paris.

Four white Burgundies were tasted against six California Chardonnays. When the scores were tallied, the French Judges were convinced that the top-ranking white wine was one of their own. In fact, it was Chateau Montelena’s 1973 Chardonnay, rated above all other wines. The results proved that Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world’s finest wines, and that California’s wine industry had come of age.
